The benefits of practicing will always outweigh the reasons (excuses) why we cannot find the time to practice. It is amazing how there is always something more pressing than the 15-minute vocal exercise that, when done every day for one week, will change the way we sing. Even when we manage to practice and see the progress, there always seems to be something else that, at the time, is more important to replace it.
Talented people suffer the most as they lean on their talent and unfortunately do not realize that practice is really what makes them amazing. Practice allows the singer and instrumentalist to be solid with all aspects of their performance (form, melody, phrasing, timing, improvising, technique, mindset) and this allows for the freedom and courage to honestly create and shine on stage. Talented people who do not practice regularly hit a ceiling in their performances, and then never really know what they have the ability to do.
I have watched some extremely talented singers and some (would be considered) mediocre singers, start off with talent way ahead. But with time and practice, the (so called) mediocre singer shines as she develops, expands and passes the talented singer. Whether you consider yourself talented or not, practice is the great equalizer. The person who practices is reliable. As skill is developed to BE the instrument, then there leaves no space for worry.
