Confidence

03 Nov, 2016 | Return|

In order to develop unshakable confidence you have to start with totally accepting who you are RIGHT NOW!

Most people want to develop confidence so they can do something better or master something they are working on, but you are the only “thing” you need to master and work on. You need to develop confidence in yourself so that you can be yourself, figure out what you really want, and then do the things you want to do.

I meet people who tell me they are confident in one area but not in another and I remind them they are talking about the same person. Just because you have not mastered something yet, does not mean you can’t have a healthy appreciation of who you are and who you are becoming.

When a baby is learning how to walk, we don’t get upset at him because he keeps falling. We encourage him, we help him and we are so happy for each and every step he takes. But when it comes to ourselves, we forget about the process and get upset and call ourselves names because we feel “we should know this by now”.

Have confidence in yourself. Remind yourself of all you’ve already come through and learned and allow yourself to move forward with the knowledge that you are actually getting better.

So go ahead and accept who you are now, because this is where developing confidence begins; with you.

Exercise:

Step 1. Write 5 positive things about yourself  and 5 things that you do well.

Step 2. Ask other people the same question and then compare the list. You may find that other people come up with abilities and personality traits that you never even thought of.
