Don’t Be Afraid To Make Mistakes

14 Jan, 2020 | Return|

Most people do not know and never get the full benefits of singing because they are afraid of making mistakes.

One huge misconception about singing is that it is made up exclusively of physical techniques that, when mastered, can produce great performances. This is only one side.  Emotional content (the appropriate feelings that go with the song) is just as important. These two sides, physical technique, and emotional content, must be merged to produce a performance that can accurately demonstrate the singer’s interpretation of a song.  Arousing interpretation of a song comes from the depth of an individual who is confident during their performance with no hesitation, no doubt, and no fear. The individual is singing, letting go and IN THE MOMENT!

How do you accomplish all of this while you are learning how to sing?  By remembering that making mistakes during your development is normal. Mickey Rooney said” you always pass failure on the way to success”, but most people do not give themselves permission to make the necessary mistakes to learn the necessary lessons that great singers have had to experience.

This one issue (not wanting to make a mistake), is what keeps potential singers from moving forward and blossoming.  It is also the one point in question that keeps us stuck in our lives. So, if you can give yourself permission to learn from the mistakes that you WILL make in singing, you will have developed the ability to use this same practice in your day to day life.

If you want to sing a song with your own interpretation in front of an audience while mastering the technical and emotional content, while maintaining the ability to stay relaxed and confident, then take a Group Performance Workshop.

“Since I have participated in the Workshops, I find that I am no longer distracted by the old insecurities that left me shaking inside when I performed. I am able to focus, be calm and have fun singing in front of an audience.  More importantly, I no longer sit in the audience watching other people performing, wishing I could get up and sing too. Now I confidently participate. I am the one on stage singing and it is so much fun!”

For 10 weeks we will work on relaxation, breathing, posture, voice projection and annunciating, which will lead you to more confidently and naturally move your body, and assist you in freely expressing your TRUE self.  All of these techniques that I have mentioned in this paragraph are tools that will assist your singing but will automatically be used in your everyday life at home, work and play.

Consider registering for a Group Performance Workshop

  • Develop vocal techniques with other like-minded students and have fun (10 per class)
  •  Learn how to manage nerves that try to sabotage your performances
  •  Let go and EXPRESS yourself

Go ahead and give yourself permission to make those mistakes and get the FULL benefits of singing and life!

Take care,
