Whoever you choose to be as a performer, at any given time, must be sincere and aligned with who you really are. If you are going to dress a certain way in a show, own it! Make sure you believe you can really rock the attitude. needed to dress the part. How do you do that? Start by making the decision, plan, work on it, in other words own it. This is your responsibility, you take care of it. You feed it so it can grow. If it was a plant we were talking about you would water it regularly or it would die. Same goes for you too when it comes to singing. If you don’t understand something, ask. Take care of your instrument which means take care of yourself (physically, emotionally and spiritually).
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
― Anais Nin
You are the only one who can clearly communicate who you really are so be yourself so you can perform from the person you know you already are inside.
Sing from this place (no judgment, not afraid to make mistakes and constantly surrendering to creativity) when you practice, so that you will sing from this same place when you are on stage. Sing knowing that your only responsibility is to masterfully release the message imbedded in the song you are singing through allowing your emotions to flow through the lyrics you are articulating because your body is supporting your every move, your every note, and your every emotional nuance.
This is the singer who is always excelling in her vocal technique through exercises, listening, being honest with herself always, and living life. This is the singer who knows she has all the emotional content she will ever need to sing the song that she is presently working on. This is the singer who believes that she can sing, and who truly allows herself to be vulnerable when performing. Own it. Only you can do it like you, so go ahead and do YOU, no matter what YOU look like!
Keep on Singing,
